- A PDF, a process video, or notes describing one real task.

No source files ready? Try the sample
Choose Try a sample project from the empty project screen or the three-dot menu → Tour App. It opens a fictional workbench exercise with a processed PDF and reference images so you can try the same generation workflow without uploading anything.
The Getting started tour introduces the controls. A separate Review & refine tour is offered when your steps are ready. You can replay either tour from Tour App.
1. Choose one task
Start with a task that has a clear beginning and end: prepare a workstation, inspect a delivered kit, or assemble one component. A focused project is easier to review and reuse than a collection of unrelated procedures.
Decide who will follow the instructions and what they should have achieved at the end. Gather the current source revision and any requirements that are not visible in the document or recording.
2. Create the project and add sources

Open StepGen and find the right workspace in the left sidebar. Choose New Project, or Create Your First Project in an empty workspace.

Give the project a recognizable name. Add a description that explains its purpose, then choose Create Project.

In Sources, use Browse Computer for PDFs and videos, or Text Notes for written knowledge. Wait for each source to show Ready.
3. Generate and clarify

Open the gear beside Generate Steps if you need special instructions or data collection fields. Save the settings.

Choose Generate Steps. Answer the Technical Clarification questions using your actual process knowledge. Use a custom answer when the supplied choices do not fit.

Answer or skip each question, then continue to generation. If more detail would help, use Grill Me to request deeper questions.

Open Steps when the draft is ready. If images are still generating, review the text while their progress continues.
You can close the generation window and return to progress from the project. Closing the window does not cancel the job.
4. Review before handing it over

Read every step in sequence. Correct names, quantities, tools, limits, and warnings against the original source.

Add or reorder steps where the draft missed a transition. Review source evidence and any unresolved or suggested information.

Use Media to attach a useful image or clip to the relevant step. Check that the visual and written action agree.

Wait for the saved indicator, then open Share. Choose Word for an editable document, a .stepgen package for reuse, or a view-only link for browser access.
An AI draft is not an approved operating procedure. Have the person responsible for the process verify it before use.
